I’ve hated this pyracantha since we put an offer in on the house. Actually, to state that I merely hated it is an understatement. I’ve trimmed it back 3 times in the last year, but it’s hard to trim because of the slope it was on. It blocked the light next to the door, making it really difficult to see on the stairs to the driveway, thus the rope light. It was covered in thorns that stab right through your clothes. I loathed this pyracantha.

So I got rid of it.

Originally, there were 4 shrubs in the front that I disliked when we bought the place. Of the 4, I have now removed 3. In this photo, it’s the pyracantha and the 2 conical trees to the left. The last one to take out is at the corner of the house, bottom right in this photo, which we’ll replace with a camelia.

We’re not sure yet what we’re putting in place of the pyracantha. Probably a trellis, climbing vine of some sort, and some low-light plants, maybe ferns and moss. We need to replace and add more lights to the garage side of the house. I also want to strip and repaint the deck, since it the former home owner did a piss poor job of it (it’s flaking off badly) and I loathe that color green almost as much as I loathed that pyracantha.

52: After each meal made our stomachs unhappy (thanks food poisoning), I finally made simple salads with spinach, apple, red onion, cranberries, feta cheese, and Challah bread. No dressing. Much easier on the stomachs.
