Descriptive Essay
I’m currently drafting an essay about our recent wine tasting trip. Even after some frustrating moments, I find writing descriptive essays to be relatively easy for me, even if I’m writing about things that I do not have that much knowledge about. I sent my very rough draft to Carl to look over, and his feedback was amazing:
Awesome. You make me want to go back! the way you wrote it makes it seem like we went on two different wine trips. I wanna go where you wrote about!
One wine I wrote about was a Syrah that I actually didn’t even taste. I took this quote from Tefft’s website
This is a smooth feeling wine with great flavors of blackberry. We produce this wine to compliment fine food. The wine is approachable in its youth and should age well for some time. This vintage is noted for its rich, concentrated flavors. Chocolate, cherry and currant flavors lace this wine with a nice lingering vanilla finish.
I wrote for my essay a description loosely based off the website, but in my own words to match the flow of my paper:
The Syrah has three distinct parts. The first taste teases the nose with blackberry scents. The bold body is a swirl of chocolate, cherry and currant flavors. The lingering aftertaste is of vanilla, prompting us to take another sip to experience the kaleidoscope of flavors again.
Of course, this is all “grade-A bullshit” as Carl mentioned earlier. I honestly can’t taste any of that, my palette is not developed enough to differentiate between flavors of white wine, let alone a red as heavy as a Syrah.  I can write about it though, and maybe I can look back at this essay in a few years and know from experience just what it is that I attempted to write about today. I only have a little bit longer to work on my draft. I’m currently lacking a conclusion. I’ll post the finished essay by Friday.
