Sleeping problems

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a hard time sleeping.  My neck and back have been tense, to the point where I feel better sleeping without a pillow or on the couch.  Ugh. This won’t do, not at all!

Last night, I had an idea.  I pulled out my foam tube and rolled back and forth for 5 minutes.  Then I went to bed.  While I had some pretty funky dreams, I slept a million times better than in recent memory.   I need to use this thing every night!

Here is an example of the foam roller.  Here are some exercises that you can do on it.

  • Use round rollers for stability exercises and myofascial release
  • What is self-myofascial release?
Myo refers to muscle, fascia to the tissue that surrounds the muscle fibers. By putting pressure on tender areas along the muscle tissue, the golgi tendon organs help trigger the relaxation of the muscle spindles, helping to dissipate the adhesions, increase blood fl ow, and enhance overall movement.
  • I highly recommend using this.  I look really silly while doing it, as my almost-shoulder-length hair gets in the way, thus I have to wear my headscarf on backwards.  It’s ok though, a little fashion mistake is worth it.
